Time For An Update
First off, let me just put it out there that I am team iPhone. Android users, I’m keeping you in prayer. 🙂 Anyhoo, whenever a new phone is released, it doesn’t matter what version of the phone you have, you will be notified when it is time for an update.
Luckily with phones, we get to choose when we want to update them. We can even schedule it to update while we are sleeping. This seems to be the most convenient thing because when our phone updates, it must first shutdown.
Who knew coming into 2020 that we were entering into a pandemic. COVID-19 seemed to spread like wildfire overnight. It seemed as if we were in a movie. Businesses began laying off employees and schools abruptly closed. Household necessities were disappearing from stores, and families everywhere were confined to their homes. It was as if the world was shutting down and we had no say-so on it.
Was It Time For An Update?
Unlike our smartphones, God doesn’t give us a chance to schedule when we need to update our life. It doesn’t matter if we are planning a wedding or preparing to buy a house. We could be packing up to move across the country or getting ready to go on vacation. God can stop us in our tracks as He pleases and without our permission.
Even though we may think everything is going well, God knows we could be better. He sees what we have yet to consider or think about. For example, you may think that accepting this new job is going to open up doors for you. However, God may allow it to not happen. He knows months from now, it will cause you to fall into a temptation that could ruin your life.
I have learned that when God begins to shutdown things in your life, its because it is time for an update. Maybe your thinking has gotten out of line with God. Perhaps there is someone in your life that shouldn’t be there. It could even be that your priorities have gotten out of whack and you need to rethink some things.
With all that is currently going on in the world, I ask you to take a look at your life. Perhaps God allowed, (not caused), this pandemic to tell us to shut down life as we’ve known it. What does that mean for you? Maybe that you need to pray more, be present with your family, or start on that idea you’ve been considering.
I find it not strange that while a pandemic is going on, God also allowed (not caused) the social unrest we are currently experiencing. Could it be that we had to be still with limited places to go, in order for us to pay attention to the systemic racism that has plagued our world for centuries? It’s time to update how we respond to such injustices.
Are you listening to what God is telling you?
Don’t you realize that after your phone completes its update, the issues you had before with it have now been fixed? Not only that, but you receive some features you didn’t have previously. So not only is your phone functioning better, but it has upgraded for your benefit.
Regardless of whether we like it or not, when God begins to shift things in our life, it is only for our good. If we adhere to what He is trying to tell us to update, we can emerge from it better than we were before. Even if others around us view it as a tragedy, we as Christians should understand that it was necessary to propel us into our next level.
So What Should You Do?
Get in prayer, read over some scriptures, and block out anything that doesn’t feed your soul. God is trying to tell you something. It’s time for an update.
