I Want To Believe
Have you ever seen a magic show live or on television? If so, you saw tricks that were mind blowing like people disappearing, objects floating in mid air, or subconscious thoughts being exposed. The magician does all kind of tricks that draw you into rethinking whats possible. It is their job to make you question the impossible. Although what you saw with your eyes may make you say “I want to believe”, your mind knows that what you saw couldn’t be real.
Are there some things in life that you want to believe but are just unable to process?
Depending on your age, you can think back to a time when you talked on a phone that was attached to a wall. Never could you have believed that a day would come where you could answer your phone from your wristwatch, view a movie on your phone, or yet alone be able to pull up any kind of information from the palm of your hand. However there was someone that choose to believe that these things could be possible. All it took was having faith in the impossible.
In the Bible, there was a man who had a son that was possessed by a demonic spirit. He believed Jesus could heal him but he still had doubts. The father was honest about where he was in his spiritual walk and Jesus met him right where he was. Even in doubt, Jesus still delivered his son from evil. The man did not shy away from what he was struggling to believe. Though his heart knew Jesus could do anything, his mind couldn’t see how this would be done.
If we are honest, Christians come across this doubt more than we’d like to admit.
I can say that during a difficult time in my life, I had doubts on if Jesus would do specific things for me. It may be hard for you to confess to God that you are doubting His power over your life. It is in your honesty though, that He can reveal himself and put an end to your unbelief. Jesus knows what we think before it is ever a thought in our mind. He knows if you are struggling to believe in who He is, what He’s done and that in which He will do.
If that is how you feel, tell Him.
We can’t overcome anything if we don’t first admit that it’s a struggle. Having doubts doesn’t make you less of a Christian, it only makes you human. How we grow to be stronger Christians who are steadfast and unmovable in our walk with Christ, is to be honest and open with our feelings. For those who are having doubts on whether Jesus is real but your heart is pulling you to believe, don’t go another day without inviting Him into your heart. Ask God to help you with what you don’t believe and watch Him work a miracle in your life.
In Relentless Pursuit,
If you haven’t accepted Christ into your life but know if your heart that it is time, say this prayer:
“Jesus, I am a sinner in need of Your help. I believe You died on the cross and rose back to life so my sins would be forgiven. I turn away from my sins and ask you to come into my life. Forgive me Jesus and help me in my unbelief. I receive and accept You today as my Lord and Savior. Amen.”
““ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”” – Mark 9:23-24 NIV
