Give God Thanks

I Had To Go Back

Appreciation is something in life that I believe is taught. As we have children, it is our responsibility as parents to teach them how to be grateful and appreciative of people and the things they have. Just as I was taught growing up, I too am teaching my child how to give thanks when someone does something they did not have to do. If I ever failed to say thank you to someone that did something nice for me, I had to go back to them and do so. This taught me that I am not entitled to have the things that I possess.

When God Blesses You

It is easy to go through life and take for granted the blessings God has provided for us. Having the ability to think for ourselves, to see, hear, smell, touch and taste; these are all gifts from God that we can easily forget to thank Him for.

What happens when you go back to thank God?

1) He will bless you

In 1 Samuel, there was a woman by the name of Hannah. She was married to a man but was unable to conceive a child. Her deepest desire was to have a child so she prayed and asked God to answer her request. Her promise in return was that if He blessed her to conceive, she would give her child back to Him.

So God granted her prayer and she made good on her promise. Hannah went back before God and thanked Him by returning the child she desired so much, back to the One who gave him to her.

In return, God blessed her with five more children.

2)He will restore you

I can never get enough of learning about Job. If you have ever experienced a major loss, you can relate to his story.

Honestly, if you lost everything that mattered to you from your family, wealth and health, do you think that you would still be able to return to God with gratitude? I would like to think that I would but just the thought of it all is overwhelming.

Somehow this was never hard for Job to do. After what seemed as his life being destroyed, he immediately fell to the ground before the Lord and worshipped Him.

Not only did he return to God but he also prayed for those who spoke against him. God took notice and ended up restoring back to him double of all that he lost.

God will restore

3)He will make you whole

In Luke chapter 17, there is a story of 10 men who were plagued with leprosy. They all came into contact with Jesus and cried out to Him for healing. Jesus heard their cry and gave them an instruction to go and show themselves to the priest. As they walked, they were healed.

So often we pray to God and ask Him to do specific things in our life. As soon as He answers our prayers, we tend to go on with our lives and not take the time to go back to God to give Him the glory He deserves.

However, of the 10 lepers, only one made a conscious decision to turn around and go back to God to thank Him for what He had done. Not only was this man healed but he was made whole.

I Had To Go Back

There is an old saying that is said in the African American church that goes “When I look back over my life and think about all that God has done!” No matter when this is said, the congregation goes into an uproar of praise.

The reason this happens is that when you remember what all God has done for you and brought you through, you can’t help but go back and give Him thanks. The thing is, we must be willing to do this without being prompted.

Say Thank You

Immediately, at the moment when God blesses you with a raise, a new car, healing, financial breakthrough, that child you’ve been praying for, or that restored relationship, we should want to give God the glory that is due to Him.

It doesn’t matter if the crowd youLeave the crowd are with continues to move forward and leave you behind. You must be bold and grateful enough to go back to God to thank Him for working in your life.

So as we enter into Thanksgiving week, let us focus our hearts and minds on the goodness of God in our life.  Let’s not allow the busyness of the holiday season to cause us to not make time to go back to God and give Him thanks.

In Relentless Pursuit,

Brandi Michelle

What are you grateful for in this season? Is there something you had to go back to thank God for recently? I would like here below in the comments.

“When one of them discovered that he was healed, he came back, shouting praises to God. He bowed down at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was from the country of Samaria.” Jesus asked, “Weren’t ten men healed? Where are the other nine? Why was this foreigner the only one who came back to thank God?”” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭17:15-18 CEV
