Get My Money Right
Most of us who do not have a million dollars sitting in the bank, long for the day where money is not an issue. We work hard on our jobs or in our business, trying to make enough money to provide for our family. Oftentimes we think to ourselves “when I get my money right, I will…”. My question to you is, what are you doing with the money you have now?
Now that the IRS has decided that refunds will be released during the government shutdown, those expecting a refund can breathe easy. However, once you receive that lump sum of money, what are your plans? Will you use your money as a down payment on a car? Are you planning on going shopping and buying some new clothes, items for your home, or something your heart desires? Before you go spending your money, whether it is your paycheck or your refund, you might want to stop and do a budget.
I know, the dreaded “B” word.
Why is that we think we either don’t need to budget or we dread hearing the word ? No matter how much money you make, you should plan out how it should be spent before you receive it. God has called us to be good stewards over all that He has given us. When He see that we are responsible with the little we have, He will give us much more to be responsible for. Budgeting is a wise way of overseeing the little. The Bible says that those who are wise have wealth and luxury but fools spend whatever they get.
Trust me, I know it’s fun to spend money on the things you want. It’s even better when you plan and set aside money to have fun with. Therefore you don’t find yourself spending money that should have gone towards bills or saving. Without following a budget, it is so easy to fall into the trap of having more month than money, and there is nothing fun about that.
God has treasures stored up for us in heaven but how we handle our money here on earth will determine if He can trust us with true riches. I don’t know about you, but I want everything God has in store for me. The time to practice getting it right is while we have breathe in our body here on earth. So stop talking about when I get my money right and start planning on how to get it right.

Goal: This week I challenge you to budget out your next paycheck prior to getting paid. Assign a place for every dollar you earn to go then follow the plan.
