With cookouts, vacations, reunions, and all things summer currently taking place, this is typically the season when families spend a lot of quality time together. The kids are out of school and parents are finally able to take a little break. Summer is just a time where we get to relax, let our hair down and enjoy life.
Just a few days ago, the nation celebrated the 4th of July. I’m sure a lot of people took part in eating good bar-b-que, sipping refreshing drinks and playing some type of fun activity. My family did all the above and decided to relive some old childhood activities. From the oldest adult to the youngest child, we all ran around like kids. It felt good to put aside our regular day to day responsibilities and just enjoy each other’s company.
The Bible says that laughter is good for the soul.
Whether or not you know it, God doesn’t want us just waiting until we see our eternal home. He wants us to enjoy life right here on earth. There are so many things that prevent us from doing this, like paying bills, making sure our families are safe, and a plethora of other responsibilities. Though we are to make sure we take care of all that God has granted us to steward, He also wants us to make time to have fun.
The Prodigal Son was celebrated upon his return from the far country with a big feast. The Hebrew women broke out in song and dance after Pharoah and his army drowned in the Red Sea. David danced before the Lord with all his might. Even Jesus turned water into wine so that the wedding celebration could continue.
Life is too short not to enjoy it.
Though this world is filled with many tribulations, God says that there is a time for everything under the sun, that includes laughter and dance. Even in the midst of trials, God promises to give us beauty for ashes, oil of joy for mourning and a garment of praise for our despair.
The enemy wants to steal the joy that God desires us to possess.
Being serious all of the time with no space for fun will only lead you to misery. Life is more than working to make a living. So if you find yourself low on happiness, find some time to do the things you love with the people you love.
In Relentless Pursuit,
“So I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun.” – Ecclesiastes 8:15 NLT
