So You Got Time?
With 2019 quickly approaching, people are beginning to set goals for the new year. It may be that you want to eat better, workout more, start a business, go back to school, or a plethora of other ideas. Regardless of the goal, why do you think you have to wait until 2019 arrives before you start working towards it? So you got time to scroll through social media or bing watch Netflix but you can’t find time to work on your goals. Who said tomorrow would be promised to you? There is no need in putting off what you can do today because we are never certain of God’s plans tomorrow? That my friend is called…
I can’t even lie, I’m guilty of it myself sometimes. The things I know I could start on today get pushed back to another day for one reason or another. Sometimes things get put off because I’m afraid of failing at it. Other times it’s because I haven’t truly made it a priority in my life. It can even be as simple as me believing that I have plenty of time to accomplish it. Can you relate to any of this or is it just me? It wasn’t until the definition of procrastination was explained in a way I had never heard it before, that I changed my mind. Bishop Rosie O’Neal explained the meaning of procrastination as being “the arrogant assumption that God owes you another chance to do tomorrow what He gave you the chance to do today”. What!!! Let me tell you, when I heard that, it blew my mind!
I didn’t realize I was walking in arrogance.
Unfortunately you are as well if you are assuming God is going to give you a chance in 2019 to do what He put on your heart today. So do you have time now? If fear is holding you back from starting, know that God did not give you that spirit. It is the enemy’s tactic to keep you from reaching your God given potential. Fight through that feeling and apply for that job you feel you are not qualified enough to receive. Make that appointment for marriage counseling for you and your spouse today. Fill out that application to begin school next semester now. Sign up for your EIN today in preparation for the business you plan on starting next year.
Remember, Rome was not built in a day.
Though the task itself may be daunting, no one said it all had to be done at one time. Saying you want this great job means nothing if you haven’t sent your resume. Wanting your marriage to be better will not solve your problem if you won’t even seek help. Wishing you had your degree gets you nowhere if you haven’t taken the proper steps to get accepted into the program. That business idea can’t come into fruition if there is not a business even set up.
God has placed a desire inside each of us.
Whatever desire He has given you to accomplish, there is no need to wait until the new year arrives in order to begin. If God has given you life and breath to see another day, you should be working your plan now. It would be foolish to not utilize your time wisely. So I encourage you to push through the fear, pray through the anxiety, and get over your arrogant thinking. God has given each and every one of us new mercies this morning. Let us show a Him our appreciation of it by putting into action that which He has placed on our heart.
In Relentless Pursuit,
“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in the evils days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” – Ephesians 5:15-17 NLT
